CommonFloor, opens the door to a better social life in modern living spaces. It enables the residents/members to interact, communicate and collaborate in internal social activities.
Recently I had a discussion with Sumit, one of the co founder of commonfloor.com. Let’s see what Sumit says about this venture…
CommonFloor.com creates an online private space for apartment complexes.
CommonFloor.com is an online offering for residents of apartments. It’s a completely free service and has the following benefits:
- Administration tools: Integration of Free SMS to notify all residents about important notifications like power outage, lift out of order, etc. Maintenance notifications and complete user management.
- Get locality savvy: Order food online, Get information about shops, utilities, events, movies, shopping offers near to your locality.
- Effective resource sharing: Buy/Sell items across all apartments in your city, Get your apartment its own virtual library, share and borrow stuff with your fellow residents.
- Effective information sharing: Take advice from your neighbors, discuss issues, post & access notices.
- Know your neighbors: Know more about neighbors, discover families and individuals you can socialize with. Organize meet-ups and events.
When I ask Sumit, How did you find this idea? Sumit unwrapped a story behind it?
We started up with the idea of letting people use their social circle for their social good. We started up with a couple of ideas and were thinking hard about the so called big idea. While brainstorming, we always felt a need of bouncing of our assumptions and projections with someone. Also we did not want to go out and waste our time. We many times and called our friends at our home and did the needful. But it could not happen very frequently. We found a bit awkward in knocking the door of other resident and telling them that we are unemployed and want to talk to you.
One day a problem happened in our locality. Our apartment was the most affected due to that. We then realized that we did not know ANY of our neighbors. The problem required huge amount of money to be paid and there was no option but to talk to other neighbors. We then went and knocked the door of everyone. I found one of my very good friend living in the same apartment which I never knew. The thing just shocked me. I could not imagine the lives we were living. I belong to small city in UP where if I buy a new shoes, everybody notices that. And now I am in a city where even if I buy brand new honda city, people just don’t care about it.
We have found the idea. Then suddenly things started getting in place. We were thinking about all the possibilities where we can bring all residents together, solve their problems and make the living easier.
Enthusiasm and passion are the things they have in their team. Sumit says we are two Co-Founders I and Lalit Mangal. We are fortunate to have Sameer Guglani, serial entrepreneur himself as our Adviser. We would like to thank Vaasu Gavarasana and Anoop Kumar to advise us in our very early stage.
We have a couple of our friends helping us on product front and a couple of more at market front.
Now the time to know what are the plans CommonFloor has in near future…
According to Sumit they would like to see every apartment in India using CommonFloor to enhance their social and personal lives. They receive a large number of requests for new features in CommonFloor and are coming up with new set of features on weekly basis.
Great! I wish CommonFloor will become a common platform for all the residents to share their interest and enjoy the neighborhood.
